Hector Jayewardene

Advocate and political organizer

Hector Wilfred Jayewardene (1916–1989) was one of the leading advocates of his generation at the Ceylon bar, and the brother of President J.R. Jayewardene.

He took silk as a Queen's Counsel and practised principally in criminal and constitutional law. He appeared in a number of the most significant cases of the post-independence period, and served on international legal bodies including as a member of the International Commission of Jurists. He held no ministerial office, and is included here for a legal rather than a political career.
